about the book
Repercussions, The Long Shadow of Conflict is a gripping and inspirational novel that shines a stark light on the realities faced by British soldiers serving in Iraq. The story begins when war erupts and Pete’s son’s unit is ambushed in a brutal attack that leaves several soldiers dead and others taken hostage. The event devastates families at home and sends shockwaves across the nation.
As chilling footage of an execution surfaces, Pete’s faith and determination drive him forward on a relentless mission to bring the captives home. What follows is a deeply human account of hope, fear, resilience, and the silent strength demanded of military families.
The novel stands apart because so little literary work has explored this period of the Iraq conflict. Many who served were far removed from public recognition, making their stories difficult to tell. Through Pete’s eyes, this book offers a rare and unflinching portrayal of the courage shown by soldiers who patrolled hostile terrain, recovered the fallen, and endured dangers the public rarely witnessed.
This is a story about the balance between hope and action, believing in a better outcome while doing everything within one’s power to reach it. Even when results are not what we expect, the journey shapes us in ways we only understand later.
Repercussions gives voice to forcibly enlisted workers, peasants, and professional soldiers whose stories are often forgotten. It unites the personal and the political, telling a father’s story with honesty, heartbreak, and unwavering love.
Every book has a story, some even have a pre-history.
